There will
definitely be those good and bad moments when taking care of a pet. You can
compare it to taking care of a child, as it is pretty similar like when you
try to get them to stay out of trouble and they just cant, just like you
cant get canines to stay out of clashes or worse,
attacking people, after you took the effort to send them to obedience
school, make them socialize with other canines and taught them how to behave
properly and even teach them a trick or two. For all you know, its never
yours that started
those clashes, its always the other anuimal! Yours merely went along with the
heat of the moment, and before we know it, the situation just gets out of
hand. It is always at these kinds of moments that you wonder what is the
right thing to do.
In
order to discontinue a clash or to prevent an attack,
you must remember never to yell at them to bring to a close, as they might think of the yelling as
an encouragement to start clashing even harder.
How to stop a dog fight? Look around you, and if
there is a water hose nearby, try to spray them down, dont panic and aim
the water jet at their legs and feet as they are more responsive to stimuli
on their extremities rather than other places. If all these still couldnt
stop the clash or attack, try to pull them apart,
but there is a high chance of getting bitten. Do not grab them by the
collars or the scruffs of their necks in the middle of a clash or they might whip back and snap
at you. It is best to have the other canines owner to be present at
times like these, so that each owner can grab their pets tail and lift up
their hind legs off the ground as this act will surprise them by throwing
them off their balance, making it easier to pull them apart. However, if you
are at the scene by yourself, then try to take charge of the aggressor by
grabbing his tail and lifting his hind legs and then pulling him away from
the other pet.
Another way to bring to a close clashes or prevent attacks would be to own a
TASER gun and use it when necessary on
canines. This might sound like an extreme version of control and even a
little sadistic, but the pain suffered from the TASER blast will definitely
be less painful than the normal injuries they can suffer from a serious clash. Furthermore, no permanent damage can be caused by the use of this TASER
gun on the aggressor.
A TASER gun can be
used to discontinue clashes as well as
stop dog attack pretty fast and efficiently. An estimated number of 368,245 persons were
treated for injuries relating to bites in North America for the year 2001, and these victims were mostly
children between the ages of 5 to 9, based on the statistics from the
National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (CDC). The blast from a TASER
gun can send an attacker to the ground with its electrical jolt, and there
should be plenty of time to subdue them when he is in the state
of shock.
In the year 2003, canine bites accounted for $321.6 million in
claims, as stated by the US based Insurance Information Institute while the
number of canine deaths for 2005 was 13,498,254 as mentioned in a
report by the American Pet Association. The North American Vet Society
quoted that the average cost of medical fees for pets involved in clashes was $137.56 for
each clash in the year 2002. Therefore, based on the high amount of
fatalities and injuries to both humans and pets it can be said that TASER
gun is a great way to keep both humans and pets safe, besides helping in
lowering the cost of pet medical bills. A case where TASER gun was used for
dog control and to
stop an attack was published in The Times Herald-Record on April 13th
2006 where a Monroe police officer named Greg Witten used a TASER gun to
subdue two aggressive pit bulls on a golf course. The two animals escaped
their Still Road home and went on to menace golfers at the Monroe Country
Club, who tried to defend themselves in return by using golf clubs. By
zapping them two with a TASER gun twice, Witten has managed to force the
animals to
return home.
You
can never imagine your pet being in a clash. However you will
never know what could provoke them or another pet into clashing, or worse, attacking someone. Even if you certainly cant imagine
having to TASER your pet, it is best to be prepared for such events, no
matter how unlikely they might seem. As
TASER guns are pretty inexpensive
nowadays, it is a good idea to invest in one for your pets safety. To learn
